What you will learn

  • Apply the writing process to produce well-organized, clear, and coherent writing.
  • Adapt writing to context, purpose, and audience.
  • Develop a clear thesis that states a claim and the key points that will be used to support that claim.
  • Employ proper citation and formatting in APA style.
  • Apply the fundamentals of research, including source assessment.

Students will develop critical skills for both academic and career growth. Students will engage in activities that apply the writing process, succinctly state and support thesis statements, identify and incorporate information from reference/research materials, and align writing to specific audiences/purposes. The course will culminate with an opportunity for students to explore problems in a community setting and attempt to solve them through careful research, logical argumentation, and clear written communication.

  1. TESU's Writing for Success MicroBachelors® Program

  2. 9–12 hours per week, for 12 weeks

    Students will be guided through the academic writing process and learn skills to improve their writing.

  3. In order to be eligible for a program certificate, you must purchase, complete and pass with a 70% or higher in all program courses in the Thomas Edison State University MicroBachelors program.

    Learners who successfully earn the MicroBachelors in Writing for Success program certificate are eligible to redeem their certificate for credit at Thomas Edison State University.

    • This course is designed to help students improve their writing skills for academic and for career success.
    • Students will apply elements of effective writing to communicate ideas and opinions.
    • Students will assess information and ideas for reliability and credibility.
    • Students will utilize the skills learned to explore a problem in their community and come up with a solution based on their research.
    • Students will synthesize information from various sources to develop new insights.
